Junior School Information

The Junior School is an integral part of Catholic University School.  With the introduction of the pre-school, we now cater for boys from age 3 years (and girls aged 3 for pre-school only).  The value of the continuity of remaining in the same environment right through the child's school years, from 3 years to 18 years, in one aspect greatly valued by parents today.

Junior classes - pre-school to 2nd class - have between 12-18 students in the class.  From 3rd class, class sizes are approximately 21. These small class sizes help provide an intimate learning environment which enables our students achieve their maximum potential.

For children to learn and to reach their potential, they need, from a very early age, to know that they are valued for who they are and for doing the best that they can.  The size of the school enables us to pay particular attention to our students individual needs and to take account of what may be beneficial for them at different stages of their development.

Great emphasis is placed on giving parents information on all aspects of their son's progress.  A monthly progress report is issued for each pupil throughout the child's years in the Junior school and two parent/teacher meetings are scheduled during the year to facilitate regular contact with parents.

The students in the Primary school are introduced to German, Spanish and French, science, music and art which are taught by teachers from the secondary school.  They also avail of PE classes taught by the senior school PE teacher.

School commences each day at 8.45 am until 2.45 pm (1st - 6th class) and 1.45 pm (pre-Junior & Senior Infants).  Pre-school finishes at 1.30 pm. After School Care is available from 1.45 pm to 6.00 pm each day and during school mid-term breaks from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm.

This September the 1st group of pupils to begin with us in Junior Infants will enter the Secondary School.  Having arrived at age 4 and in the case of Pre-School at age 3, they will spend up to 15 years with us.

Arising from my experiences as a therapist and as Principal I am convinced that boys need more and more minding. In the increasingly uncertain world to which we are preparing them, providing continuity and stability from Pre-School to Leaving Certificate develops this confidence and the skills they need to make their way in the world.
